Fashion Week Friday.

To be completely honest, besides a few blogs and articles on Fashion Week, I don’t really follow the event all that closely. But, you see all these “street style” photos of people hanging out between shows and I can’t help but wonder “How much did they PAY for that outfit?!” (sometimes critically sometimes out of pure envy).

Well. This article from Yoodot asked a few attendees that question and here are some of the answers:

75_dollars

  350_dollars

2400_dollars

too_much

priceless

“Priceless”  – I LOVE that answer! For more outfits and prices, click the images above or here. Thank you, Alison at Brown Eyed Style for the link!

… THEN there’s Jimmy Kimmel’s prank … So funny!

Movie know it all.

To stay along the same theme as yesterday’s Tuesday Dudesday, I just want to quickly discuss IMDb.

I feel like most people know of this site… but recently I have run into a few people who didn’t. And as a HUGE fan, I feel like that’s kind of blasphemy and I have to share:

Screen shot 2013-06-24 at 6.39.36 PM

IMDb – the Internet Movie Database – is this huge website full of movie and TV information. It tells you everything from the director and actors (who all have links to their own page, etc), to more interesting things like mess ups and, my favorite, trivia.

I am seriously obsessed with looking at IMDb when BF and I watch movies at home. I think I kind of annoy him on occasion with my interruptions of “Did you know….” or “Oh my gosh look at what this actor looks like now!

For example… Did you know in Bridesmaids, Melissa McCarthy (Megan) and Ben Falcone (Air Marshall Jon) are real life husband and wife!?

Or… That the boy who played “Racetrack Higgins” in Newsies now looks like this (please tell me you’ve at least heard of Newsies – Christian Bale AND a musical? Yes, please.):

newsies then and now

Please visit IMDb, if for no other reason than to read some of the trivia from your favorite movies. It’s almost always awesome.

Between IMDb and Movieclips, I think you could easily become the next Movie Know-It-All!

Sorry if this is old news to you, but it is worth sharing, don’t you think?!

Tatted Christmas.

Tattly is a website that sells beautiful temporary tattoos – I’m talking ones that adults would be proud to sport (they definitely were – in my family, at least). I love the inspiration behind the site, too. The founder said she was tired of her young daughter wearing “clip art fake tattoos.” Amen.

tattly

So I got my whole family some for Christmas.

There were 8 of us celebrating Christmas down in Florida this year so I ended up getting 4 sets of 8: the Black Set, Nautical Set, Watch Set, and  Premier Set.  My dad was the first one to put one on – and the first spot he picked was his neck! That quickly led to a family of neck tattooed people which, as you can probably tell by my photos below, is hilarious for us. Oh, and the dog got one, too!

tattoos

(PS… I made this gif at Picasion GIF maker – so easy!)

After applying all our tattoos, we headed to the Madagascar Ice exhibit and then the next day, to  The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. – At both places we definitely got some stares.

tat4My mom’s tattoo was my favorite – it looked so real and good with her short hair! I also loved my diamond knuckles and even got a few inquiries about them being real! Hmm….

These small gifts were definitely a hit among my family members and just made me want a tattoo that much more.  Maybe a tattoo will happen in 2013.

Hope you had a great Christmas, holidays, new year, everything.

SunBurstin’.

Two weeks ago, I showed you my striped walls. Well, they just needed a little more oomph. So I turned to Pinterest – yes, I admit it. Pinterest. Like everybody else. And I found the sunburst mirror diy. To be fair, I made it before it was ALL over Pinterest… it was just sort of over it at the time.

Anyway, I started out by collecting a bunch of paint sticks from Home Depot. They were actually really easy to get – I just walked up and asked the kid behind the counter if I could take a bunch. Like… a bunch. He didn’t care – so I grabbed a few handfuls and awkwardly left.

Then I spray painted them all gold

I actually hated the color gold they turned out so went out and bought gold paint that had metallic shavings or something in it – it ended up being a much richer, more realistic gold than what the spray paint gave me.

Then I got a 12″ circle mirror from Michaels and divided it up like a pizza and hot glued the sticks on it. I did two layers: one shorter and one longer

Finally, I painted the inside of a 12″ needle point hoop gold and glued it on the mirror to frame it, glued a hanging thingy on the back and… Voila!

Stripe Hype.

So the BF and I have lived in our apartment for just about 2 years now and we have had striped walls in our little nook between our bathroom and bedroom for probably about a year and a half of those 2 years. But I’ve been meaning to share it with you.

I ordered a roll of black vinyl that was about 6 or 7 inches tall, used an exacto knife to cut the stripes, and an old cd case to make sure it was adhered (high-tech, I know) –  and we went to town:

Of course the crappiest photo I have of the project is the final one – sorry about that.

These were surprisingly really a  challenge to put up – mostly because of them having to be perfectly straight – if one stripe is even a liiiiittle off, it could mess up the other ones farther up. It worked out and it was so worth it – the stripes are definitely my favorite part of our decor! My favorite view of them is from our bedroom (sorry about the shoes – typical.):

And that’s that!

Punch A Fork In It.

While Pinterest seems to be my dreamland of recipes, after a total fail attempting one, I am a little weary about trying them out. All Recipes is usually my go-to with reviews, comments, etc. BUT – I just discovered what seems to be a good combo of the two – PunchFork.

PunchFork

Basically this is a “Pinterest” type website with only recipes. On this site, you can view recipes and all the ingredients, some ratings, and a link to the website so you can view the original instructions.

After I came across PunchFork, I decided to go ahead and plan our meals for the week. So without further ado… what BF and I will be eating this week (click photos for link):

Chicken Tortilla Soup:

Buffalo Chicken Lettuce Wraps:

Image

Broccoli Parmesan Fritters (obviously with chicken or something, too):

Image

Thai-Spiced Pumpkin Soup (again, with something else):

Image

Pork Sandwiches with Cilantro Jalapeno Slaw (minus the bun)

Image

Chicken Pot Pie (on Saturday, our “Cheat Day”)

Image

Best Steak Marinade

I’ll let you know how they go. Have a great week!

March – July Update

March – my mom came to visit from NYC – took her around our old neighborhood – lots had changed – yet nothing had changed at the same time.

April – BF surprised me by taking me to a DC Rollergirls bout – I spent the whole time swearing I would learn how to rollerskate so I could kick some ass like those girls and Ellen Page in “Whip It.

I apparently didn’t document May… whoops.

June – one of my good friends Clare (of Clarabelle) got married! It was a beautiful wedding and we were so honored to be included! PS they had a BREAKFAST BAR at their reception – it was amazing.

July – on the 4th, my best friend in the whole wide world welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world! Olivia Rose Vitale!

I also got microdermal piercings in July – click here for the best visual I’ve seen on how it works. For those of you who are wondering, it is a “single entry piercing” and is basically permanent.

Crazy easy.

In my search for a “Soulmate [insert item here]” and other good deals, I often scour Craigslist. For hours.  Craigslist is an infamous time sucker.  Sometimes it’s fun but most of the time it’s down right frustrating, clicking on things that you hope may be that “diamond” just to find that they’re simply rough.

But I have good news!!! I have discovered a solution and I’m totally stoked!

CraigsEasy is a website that, with the risk of sounding like a cheesy infomertial, makes searching Craigslist fun again.

Here’s how it works:
1. Go to their website and add their “Easy” button (remind you of Staples?)  to your “favorites” tool bar.
2. Go to Craigslist, search what you want (ex: chair under $100 – see image below) and as soon as the page pulls up, hit the “easy” button. CraigsEasy will then do its magic – changing the mindnumbing gray and blue plain-ass website (no offense CL, it does the job…ish)  into an eye-pleasing, easy to search website that simply lists images, cost, and location of each post. It makes searching Craigslist so much faster and allows you to kiss way less frogs to find your prince – or “Soulmate [insert item here].”

If you’re not as stoked as I am about this, then there’s something seriously wrong with you. Just kidding…

… kinda.

Happy hump day! Happy Craigslist hunting!

7Side inspiration.

Oh hey, Wednesday! Hurry up and be over so I can be closer to the weekend, k? Thanks.

So today’s post might be kinda familiar to some of you but… I just wanted to share with you, once again, my brother’s blog/talents and update you a little.  Below is a shortened version of a post I wrote a while back. With an update at the end.

Good morning!

Today’s blog is actually belongs to my (older) brother, Matt. He went to Virginia Tech and majored in Industrial Design. In other words, he may actually like art and design even more than ME! Matt is really into making things…

7Side Design …. allows you to peek into his artsy brain; from his hands-on projects and hobbies to his unique inspirations and experiences. This guy, who designs BOATS by day, leads a seriously awesomely art-infused life (in FLORIDA no less!)!

I think my favorite thing that Matt has created is one of his first 7Side projects, the Sanguine Dresser. I mean… it’s a dresser AND a shoe rack AND a headboard… how cool is that?! Another one of my favorite projects that Matt… made me my very own “e.” I seriously love it. (see below. )

Honestly, I think that 7Side Design is a great up-and-coming blog/company (and I’m not just saying that because he’s my brother). I seriously can’t wait to not only SEE more but hopefully one day OWN more of Matt’s creations!

Since that posting, a little over a year ago, Matt has done more work, like his wooden wall installations. Originally, I was thinking about having him come, and/or send me the supplies, to install our very own wooden wall up in our loft. Then I realized that the only real wall the loft has continues into a stairwell, and down the stairs, into the “entryway” – way too much wooden wall (especially for a rental..) – so we may have to make it more of an accent PIECE instead of accent WALL.

His walls look so cool though! I love all the different shades (which are totally natural!) The walls are seriously something straight out of Anthropologie (only one of my favorite stores of all time). Below are pictures taken from the 7side Design Blog:

Visit 7side Design’s blog and check out all his awesome creations! Happy Hump Day!

Before.

Hope you had a good Valentines Day! BF sent me flowers yesterday at work- Sunflowers to be exact. My favorite

So I may see a glimmer of hope at the end of our apartment decorating tunnel…. the glimmer of hope meaning… we finally bought a couch!!!! It’s a big deal. but it hasn’t arrived yet.

Here’s a pic of it I took on my phone at the store – don’t mind the ugly pillows.

The reason this couch is such a big deal is because… well… I’m waiting on it to pick the wall color, to choose the rug, and the chairs, and hang the art – none of which I have yet. I think the couch will get the ball rolling. And I’m stoked. In the meantime, I finally took some “before” pics of our place this weekend!!

Please don’t judge I took most of these with my cell phone. Plus… We’ve only been here a month tomorrow.

Living room - taken from kitchen

Living room- taken from sliding glass doors (you can see our loft from here!)

Bathroom - the counter is made for a basketball player!

Loft!

I was going to take pics of our bedroom, too… but it’s looking extremely messy. That will have to be another day.

Have a good one!
