5 Things I’m Totally Digging:

Hey! I’m back for a minute. And I just wanted to tell you about 5 things I’ve been into recently:

tangerine orange mio1. Orange Tangerine Mio – You’ve probably seen the commercials for this stuff. And I admit – I’m into it. I’ve been known to make late night trips to McDonalds every once in a while to pick up a large Hi-C Orange drink. I’m obsessed (although it tends to give me heartburn). The Orange Tangerine Mio tastes JUST like that. But better for you – and it lives in my fridge! Perfect.

2. Bobs Burgers – This show is like Family Guy but maybe slightly more family-friendly and HILarious. If you haven’t seen it, try it out. They’re on Netflix (and apparently YouTube here or there, too):

citi thank you preferred3. Citibank credit card – I’ve been using a Capital One rewards credit card for a few years now but recently looked at a statement and saw that my APR was at 21.95%! Holy Cow! I had no idea. I think I had come in at 0% APR offer and, like they count on, didn’t notice when that offer ended. Fortunately, I had a “dormant” Citicards “Thank You Preferred” credit card waiting for me with an offer for 0% APR for 15 months = balance transfer for the win!  Lesson learned:  Don’t forget to look at your statements!  If you need a good finance tool, I still recommend Mint.com. I’m their #1 Fan. Seriously. #1.

colgate_whitening_penbrush4. Colgate Optic White toothpaste and toothbrush/whitening pen – I’m part of this program called Influenster where in exchange for you answering surveys, writing reviews, and posting on social media sites, you get free samples to try. The most recent items I got were the Colgate Optic White toothpaste and toothbrush with built in whitening pen. The samples they sent lasted about 2 weeks and at the end of that time period, I really loved the results! I’m not just saying this because I got the free stuff to review (thank you!) – I actually liked it so much that I went out and purchased a new batch. I have used Crest Whitestrips before but I’m so bad at remembering to wear them. Having the pen in the base of the toothbrush made it so easy to whip it out every time I brushed (2x a day). The goo in the pen is essentially the goo from the strips. I definitely recommend the toothpaste and toothbrush/whitening pen and if you want an invite, let me know! I love being a part of Influenster.

5. Valerie by Amy Winehouse (RIP) – I can’t decide if I’m embarrassed or not to admit this but I’ve watched Glee since the beginning. The last episode ever just aired recently and included a version of Amy Winehouse’s “Valerie” performed by Santana. Ever since then, I can’t get it out of my head and have been playing it on repeat:

** Just so you know, I was not paid to recommend any of these products. I did receive the Colgate items for free for purpose of testing and review but these opinions are solely my own.**

When I’m banging on the dashboard! Chain hits my chest when I’m banging on the radio!

I discovered this song from The Mindy Project (love this show). Totally my jam:

Need a chain after watching this video? I got mine at South Moon Under:

Tuesday Dudesday: Rappers N Rappers N Rappers

A famous philosopher once said
“Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis – When I was dead broke, man I couldn’t picture this – 50-inch screen, money green leather sofa – Got two rides, a limousine with a chauffeur”
– Notorious BIG

Whoa Whoa Whoa. BIG I heard of that guy … he was a thug … a hoodlum … a DRUG DEALER …. true true – and Socrates fondled little boys – it’s all about context people.

Which kinda sorta gets me to my topic of the day… My new favorite site for all things music (in this case Rap) related is Rap Genius.

rap_genius

This site not only breaks a lot of new and awesome music it also takes each line bit by bitbyte by byte and explains every lyric in (sometimes) painstakingly detail.

Some of my favorite include:

I think that all the silence is worse than all the violence
Fear is such a weak emotion, that’s why I despise it
We scared of almost everything, afraid to even tell the truth
So scared of what you think of me, I’m scared of even telling you
Sometimes I’m like the only person I feel safe to tell it to
I’m locked inside a cell in me, I know that there’s a jail in you
Consider this your bailing out, so take a breath, inhale a few
My screams is finally getting free, my thoughts is finally yelling through”
– Lupe Fiasco – Words I never Said

– Kendrick Lamar – Don’t Kill My Vibe
and don’t forget…
– Jay Z – 03′ Bonnie & Clyde (dedicated to my Bonnie)

Check out the site for more.

Can’t stop.

Oh, Miley.  You’re definitely in my “guilty pleasures” list with Party in the USA (and the remix).  I know most people hate your new look but I think it’s rather badass.  I kind of like your new song, too (my favorite part is the guy’s “It’s my party I can do what I want,” etc, etc).  I definitely predict a plethora of club remixes. (maybe even a mashup – Young Gunz Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop, anybody?)

Sincerely, Me.

There’s an app for that.

We had a great time in Charleston, SC and there were a lot of apps that helped us along the way! Here are the top 5 I used:

Road Trip App1) Road Trip – When I was younger, my family would take long car trips (8+ hours) and  I would entertain myself by trying to find all 51 license plates. Now there’s an app for that! Road Trip is an app that keeps track of when and where you spotted the state’s license plate! We did really well and ended up finding THIRTY EIGHT out of 51. Not bad if I do say so myself. See below for screen shots:

Overdrive app2) OverDrive – This app allows you to download and “borrow” books and audiobooks from your library for FREE! All you need is a library card. While my parents used to force us to listen to boringass “books on tape” when we were younger, they now have cool books like Harry Potter, etc. you can listen to. I think the selection offered depends on your library but I’m not 100% sure about that one.
Spotify3) Spotify -This one is kind of a no-brainer. As I have mentioned before, music is crucial to road trips. The BF has the paid version of the app so he was able to subscribe to my playlist in addition to using the free “radio” feature. The playlist was especially helpful when we hit pockets of zero cell service.
Yelp-App4) Yelp – Seriously. This app (combined with my maps app) drained my phone because I used it so much. I used this app to find pretty much all our meals. BF kept telling me that I shouldn’t be “slave to the reviews” but that many people just can’t be wrong, right?! Click here to view my reviews.

waze app5) Waze – I downloaded this app a few months ago but didn’t really get it. Basically, its a GPS/social community for drivers. Your little icon cruises around the road you’re on and you can leave comments regarding cops, accidents, traffic, etc to warn other people. The more you interact, the more points you get. Not really sure what the points get you besides bragging rights… but lemme tell you it’s kind of fun/addicting. The tool is fun but obviously kind of… unsafe? if you’re not the passenger.  It could also be helpful when you want to avoid bad traffic and whatnot.  See below for screen shots:

Honorable mentions: Vine, Instagram, and Google Maps (obvi)

Can’t wait to test even more apps for road trips – there are a TON out there!

What’s A Road Trip Without A Playlist?

I love a good playlist. Especially when you’re going to be in the car for more than oh… 30 minutes. Try a total of 30 15+ HOURS (there and back).

I recruited Alison of Brown Eyed Style to help me put together a diverse, fun playlist for our trip.  She is always introducing me to new and unique sounds.  Check out her blog for a nice combo of fashion, music, and cooking/diy!

And here is the playlist I plan on listening to on our trip. Hope the BF is ready (fortunately, he’s very tolerant of my music choices):
