Fashion Week Friday.

To be completely honest, besides a few blogs and articles on Fashion Week, I don’t really follow the event all that closely. But, you see all these “street style” photos of people hanging out between shows and I can’t help but wonder “How much did they PAY for that outfit?!” (sometimes critically sometimes out of pure envy).

Well. This article from Yoodot asked a few attendees that question and here are some of the answers:

“Priceless”  – I LOVE that answer! For more outfits and prices, click the images above or here. Thank you, Alison at Brown Eyed Style for the link!

… THEN there’s Jimmy Kimmel’s prank … So funny!

Treat yo’self.

Last week, I was just not happy with my hair. It was one of those weeks. So I made my first blow out appointment!

It while I’ve heard about them through blogs, etc, I have never been to a blow dry bar. They’re actually kind of rare in Northern VA! I ended up going to FLOW in Reston… and of course I picked the day that it was monsooning outside. Fail.

When I first walked in, I was barely greeted and was kind of sat in the chair for a few minutes without knowing how this was going to go down… but then my hairstylist, Shantelle, showed up. She was super cute and we had some nice conversation while she washed and blow dried my hair. They offer a few different styles and services. I opted for the “F.L.O.W.” blow out which is their namesake look. Basically straight with some body at the bottom. The whole thing cost $35 before tip.

she doesn't even go hereI was very happy with my results and would definitely go back and recommend to friends! Here’s an awkward selfsie of me after running with my hood tied all the way tight – like the guy in Mean Girls (“She doesn’t even go here!”)

Haitus Discoveries.

So while I’ve been on my latest hiatus, I have continued to discover awesome, inspiring, and addicting sites that I can no longer live without. It turns out, though, I am a little slow on the uptake on some of them. Instead of writing about each one in a blog post per usual,  I’ll just do a quick rundown so that I can get back into this blogging thing!

Fab.com  New stores open daily at 11:00am – let me tell you… the 4 minutes between when you receive the email reminder and when the store actually opens feels like forever! The stores highlight small designers/retailers of various mediums – furniture, art, tshirts, jewelry, candles, food, you name it, it probably has been on here. It’s awesome to find unique, often handmade, items that you know you probably can’t find anywhere else. There’s even an app to feed my addiction! Here are some of my purchases:

Refinery 29 – so many fashion inspirations, DIYs, and how-to videos (a few of my favorite things!)–  I’m a little embarrassed to admit this but one of their videos taught me how to successfully curl my hair (with compliments from strangers following!!) – Yes, I’m 25 years old and just learning how to do my hair. It’s probably fine.

Pinterest – I’ve actually known about this one for a while but was totally afraid of it – I knew I would be addicted…. And sure enough… I am.  In a lot of ways, it reminds me of how this blog started – as a way to document and share my awesome findings from the internet –  Pinterest is just way diverse, time sucking, and addicting – my favorite qualities! Click here or below to follow me and my boards!

Mumford and Sons– what?! I admitted I was behind the times! Don’t judge.

Spotify – As you probably know, I’m a huge Pandora fan. Huge. But after a long period of putting it off, I have finally joined everyone on Spotify… at least while at work. My car rides & etc. still go to a Pandora soundtrack (Pandora is free…)

Like I said, this may be old news to you – but these are sites (and songs) that I can’t do without these days.  PS. Regularly scheduled posts will return next week.

Social living.

So now that we’re living up in Northern Virginia (yay!), we need to figure out what to do, where to eat, and… of course… where to find the best deals! A friend of mine introduced me to a site that, if you haven’t heard of it, you need to visit ASAP. It’s called:

LivingSocial is a website that gives you super good deals on things in your area. These “things” include discounts on items/services like food/drink, beauty (ex: teeth whitening, hair cuts & etc).

Basically, you make an account (it’s free!) then visit everyday and check out the deals! Deals include items/service like “$20 for $40 worth of food at x restaurant.” After that, it’s as easy as clicking the “buy” button and typing in your  credit card, address & etc (it can be saved for easy/fast purchasing after your first time). Then, the deal is saved in your account. When you want to use it, simply pull it up on your phone or print it out and show it to the person helping you.

The thing with the deals is… the deal isn’t “active” a certain amount of people “buy” it (your card won’t get charged until it is active).  Don’t worry, though, I’ve never seen one not get purchased by enough people.

One of my favorite thing about LivingSocial is that they have an iPhone App! It’s a super easy way of checking the daily deals!

There are other websites out there similar to LivingSocial including Woot! and Groupon.

I actually wrote about Woot! a while back.
Woot! has one – usually electronic – deal a day. They also have a kids.woot! shirt.woot! wine.woot! and sellout.woot. There’s an App for Woot! too! Love it!

Groupon is similar to Woot! and LivingSocial in that it has deals in most major cities. They offer a lot of the same kind of deals including deals on restaurants, massages, haircuts & etc. (They also have an app)

Get out there, Get the Deals, and Get Social – all without breaking the bank!
