Chain hits my chest.

When I’m banging on the dashboard! Chain hits my chest when I’m banging on the radio!

I discovered this song from The Mindy Project (love this show). Totally my jam:

Need a chain after watching this video? I got mine at South Moon Under:

Movie know it all.

To stay along the same theme as yesterday’s Tuesday Dudesday, I just want to quickly discuss IMDb.

I feel like most people know of this site… but recently I have run into a few people who didn’t. And as a HUGE fan, I feel like that’s kind of blasphemy and I have to share:

IMDb – the Internet Movie Database – is this huge website full of movie and TV information. It tells you everything from the director and actors (who all have links to their own page, etc), to more interesting things like mess ups and, my favorite, trivia.

I am seriously obsessed with looking at IMDb when BF and I watch movies at home. I think I kind of annoy him on occasion with my interruptions of “Did you know….” or “Oh my gosh look at what this actor looks like now!

For example… Did you know in Bridesmaids, Melissa McCarthy (Megan) and Ben Falcone (Air Marshall Jon) are real life husband and wife!?

Or… That the boy who played “Racetrack Higgins” in Newsies now looks like this (please tell me you’ve at least heard of Newsies – Christian Bale AND a musical? Yes, please.):

newsies then and now

Please visit IMDb, if for no other reason than to read some of the trivia from your favorite movies. It’s almost always awesome.

Between IMDb and Movieclips, I think you could easily become the next Movie Know-It-All!

Sorry if this is old news to you, but it is worth sharing, don’t you think?!

Tuesday Dudesday: MovieClips.

So I was looking up some good example videos for this new product I want to market – it has to do with cell phones and charging multiple devices from the same USB … but that’s not the point.I came across this cool YouTube video:
I thought the video was effective so I decided to 1) use them as an example for what I want to do and 2) go check out the site.

How have I not heard of this site before? Seriously.

This site has millions of movie clips and makes it ridiculously easy to find that Emma Watson or Chuck Norris clip you’ve been dying to see again.

Taker ‘er for a spin.

Back to school.

This day and age, I feel like HTML knowledge is a good skill to include on your resume. While I’m comfortable with basic formatting code, etc., I have been tossing around the idea of taking a class or two to brush-up and improve my skills.

Before I spend the extra $$ and time required by an college-type class,  BF recommended I try Codeacademy.

codeacademy

I just started and have made it through the first phase in the “Web Fundamentals” lessons. It has been pretty fast and easy so far, but definitely good to ingrain the basics before moving on. Here’s an example of what the lessons look like:

codeacademy - web fundamentals

Basically, it gives you a quick lesson and then some instructions to what you are supposed to do. All your coding goes in the right.

If you do anything with websites at your job or in your spare time, even if it’s just a personal blog, I definitely recommend checking out this website! Already mastered all the skills? Why not teach?

Tuesday Dudesday: Rappers N Rappers N Rappers

A famous philosopher once said
“Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis – When I was dead broke, man I couldn’t picture this – 50-inch screen, money green leather sofa – Got two rides, a limousine with a chauffeur”
– Notorious BIG

Whoa Whoa Whoa. BIG I heard of that guy … he was a thug … a hoodlum … a DRUG DEALER …. true true – and Socrates fondled little boys – it’s all about context people.

Which kinda sorta gets me to my topic of the day… My new favorite site for all things music (in this case Rap) related is Rap Genius.

rap_genius

This site not only breaks a lot of new and awesome music it also takes each line bit by bitbyte by byte and explains every lyric in (sometimes) painstakingly detail.

Some of my favorite include:

I think that all the silence is worse than all the violence
Fear is such a weak emotion, that’s why I despise it
We scared of almost everything, afraid to even tell the truth
So scared of what you think of me, I’m scared of even telling you
Sometimes I’m like the only person I feel safe to tell it to
I’m locked inside a cell in me, I know that there’s a jail in you
Consider this your bailing out, so take a breath, inhale a few
My screams is finally getting free, my thoughts is finally yelling through”
– Lupe Fiasco – Words I never Said

– Kendrick Lamar – Don’t Kill My Vibe
and don’t forget…
– Jay Z – 03′ Bonnie & Clyde (dedicated to my Bonnie)

Awesome People Reading.

Still think reading is for the nerds? Check out these Awesome People Reading:

billie holliday

mj reads

hellen keller reads

Billie Holiday, Michael Jackson and Helen Keller – they all read.

mindy kaling

Update on my reading list:  Since my last Bookworm post, I have finish Mindy Kaling’s book – LOVED it! LOVE her! I also downloaded my first Audible book (aka “book on tape”) and listened to Divergent two weekends ago on the way to and from Charlotte, NC. BF was NOT thrilled at first but eventually got into it. We’ve barely started the second book, Insurgent, and are looking forward to a few short road trips coming up to try to finish it up!

Happy Monday!

Treat yo’self.

Last week, I was just not happy with my hair. It was one of those weeks. So I made my first blow out appointment!

It while I’ve heard about them through blogs, etc, I have never been to a blow dry bar. They’re actually kind of rare in Northern VA! I ended up going to FLOW in Reston… and of course I picked the day that it was monsooning outside. Fail.

When I first walked in, I was barely greeted and was kind of sat in the chair for a few minutes without knowing how this was going to go down… but then my hairstylist, Shantelle, showed up. She was super cute and we had some nice conversation while she washed and blow dried my hair. They offer a few different styles and services. I opted for the “F.L.O.W.” blow out which is their namesake look. Basically straight with some body at the bottom. The whole thing cost $35 before tip.

she doesn't even go hereI was very happy with my results and would definitely go back and recommend to friends! Here’s an awkward selfsie of me after running with my hood tied all the way tight – like the guy in Mean Girls (“She doesn’t even go here!”)

I got it from my momma.

Well, just half really.

The BF found this thing online where you can submit your DNA to be tested for all sorts of things related to health and ancestry. If you watched Greys Anatomy this season, I think it’s kind of like the genome mapping that Bailey was doing  (love her!)…

Screen shot 2013-06-11 at 6.13.49 PM

Anyway, we did it. It involved ordering a kit, spitting into a little tube, mailing it back, and answering a series of surveys/questionnaires. Then, about 2 months later, they email you with your results. I was honestly pretty nervous about it – I mean… do I really want to know that I’m likely to die from X Y or Z later?! But it wasn’t really like that. Nothing too terrifying. It was also cool to find out my ancestry – It wasn’t really a shocker… but interesting nonetheless.

If you are more interested in your ancestry and don’t want to see your health information, they allow you to do that. If you only want your health info and don’t want to be contacted about possible relatives on the site, that is an option, too. (I got an email that they found someone I probably shared a relative with over 250 years ago! It’s amazing what DNA can tell you!)

Check out the website for more information!

Can’t stop.

Oh, Miley.  You’re definitely in my “guilty pleasures” list with Party in the USA (and the remix).  I know most people hate your new look but I think it’s rather badass.  I kind of like your new song, too (my favorite part is the guy’s “It’s my party I can do what I want,” etc, etc).  I definitely predict a plethora of club remixes. (maybe even a mashup – Young Gunz Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop, anybody?)

Sincerely, Me.
